Chicago is going Nashville, much to my appreciation and to the locals’ (mostly) despise. As someone who runs a country blog and listens to country music every day of their life while living in Chicago I’m glad the scene is finally popping. As a regular for live performances at Joe’s on Weed and Joe’s Rosemont, Lettuce Entertain You has long been a very popular destination for the Midwest’s country itch. The company additionaly own’s Bub City which is a River North (Near downtown) favorite for country, and always promises a good time. Joe’s on Weed St satisifes Lincoln Park. Carol’s went from a dive to a more popular bar on the North Side for country and live music. West Loop has the not-so-country but instead popular Texan Taco Bar. Now Wrigley steps up beyond Old Crow where you see Cowboy hats and Line dancing to expand into the neighborhood with new bars like Stolen Saddle.
Chicago may be known for its deep-dish pizza and towering skyscrapers, but the Windy City’s country bar scene is a hidden gem that rivals the honky-tonks of Nashville. With live music, line dancing, barbecue bites, and plenty of whiskey, these spots offer a slice of Southern hospitality amid the urban hustle. Drawing from recent guides and reviews as of October 2025, here’s our roundup of the top 10 country bars in Chicago. Whether you’re a local looking for a boot-scootin’ night out or a visitor craving authentic twang, these venues deliver.
Here’s a list of my top picks for bars where everything country happens in the city.
1. Carol’s Pub

Chicago’s OG country bar that has stood the test of time. As a smaller venue you’ll find small acts and a true country crowd that is now being infiltrated by mainstream fans.
Located at 4659 N Clark St in Uptown, Carol’s Pub is a legendary dive bar that’s been a staple since 1973, offering a warm, cozy atmosphere with vintage decor, twinkling lights, and brick walls adorned with country memorabilia. It’s renowned for fantastic live music nearly every night, featuring local country bands and karaoke, alongside the best bar food in the city like crispy fried pickles and hearty BBQ sandwiches. The friendly staff fosters a sense of community, making it a go-to for both regulars and newcomers. Reviews praise its charming, unique vibe and as a top spot for late-night fun.
2. Joe’s on Weed St.

Stays number one for live country music with the likes of Josh Ross, Waylon Wyatt, Ashley Cook and any new/trending country music artist coming through. Although not as many cowboy/girl hats you’ll find a fun crowd thats a mix of both young and old.
Situated at 940 W Weed St, this spacious venue is a prime spot for country music lovers, boasting a large stage with top-notch sound, live bands that get everyone dancing, and multiple bars to keep lines short. It features an impressive drink selection, including signature cocktails, and tables for seated enjoyment. Reviews highlight its great venue setup and helpful staff, making it perfect for concerts and events.
However, Joe’s is not always country, just on certain event and concert nights.
3. Stolen Saddle

A newcomer that opened in April 2025 at 3505 N Clark St in Wrigleyville, Stolen Saddle spans three floors with a Tex-Mex theme, featuring wood-paneled walls, longhorn accents, neon lights, and real saddles as bar stools. The menu highlights smoked brisket in tacos, burritos, and nachos, plus batched margaritas in flavors like watermelon and avocado. Atmosphere-wise, it’s lively with DJ sets mixing country and pop, live music on weekends, line dancing lessons, and a rooftop overlooking Wrigley Field—perfect for game days. Special events include themed trivia and karaoke, with a capacity for over 1,100 guests. Patrons rave about the fun, immersive vibe and Tex-Mex fusion.
4. Bub City

Good eats, good music, and a mixed crowd of Trump supporters and just downtown folks.
At 435 N Clark St in River North (with another location in Rosemont), Bub City is a barbecue haven with delicious brisket sandwiches that melt in your mouth and fall-off-the-bone ribs bursting with smoky flavor. The fun atmosphere includes live country music on Thursdays through Saturdays, space for open dancing, and famous whiskey cocktails served by incredibly friendly staff. It’s praised for its helpful service and as a true country bar in the city, ideal for groups.
5. Houndstooth Saloon
Found at 3369 N Clark St in Lakeview, Houndstooth Saloon offers a rustic atmosphere with wooden tables, dim lighting, and daily specials like Taco Tuesday and all-you-can-eat fish Fridays. The friendly staff recommends signature drinks, and it’s lauded for its fun night-out vibe and good deals.

7. The Hideout
Tucked away at 1354 W Wabansia Ave in Bucktown, The Hideout is an iconic spot with unique live shows from local and up-and-coming artists, top-notch sound, and reasonably priced drinks. 8. Montrose Saloon
Located at 2933 W Montrose Ave in Albany Park, Montrose Saloon boasts a fun atmosphere with country music, dancing, and an authentic interior decorated with cowboy hats and boots. It offers a variety of music, reasonable prices, and helpful staff. It’s often recommended for its welcoming vibe and mix of country with rock hits.
9. Charlie’s
At 3726 N Broadway St in Lakeview, Charlie’s is a go-to for dancing, offering free lessons in line dancing, two-step, swing, and waltzes on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It’s inclusive for all levels, with an encouraging crowd and open floor. Reviews appreciate its welcoming environment for learning and socializing.
10. Old Crow Smokehouse
Wrigley’s go to country bar for years. This is where you’ll find a real crowd of cowboy hats, hot girls, line dancers, and people ready to vibe with you. This large venue (for Wrigley) offers a large Wooden Horse, mid-size stage, bars on either side, and ok food.
Situated at 3506 N Clark St in Wrigleyville, this BBQ joint doubles as a live music venue with line dancing and two-step lessons on Fridays, including a $5 cover with a welcome cocktail. It serves southern-style barbecue and signature cocktails, praised for its lively nights from 8 pm to 1:30 am.
In a city as diverse as Chicago, these country bars provide a perfect escape with their blend of music, food, and community. Many offer no-cover nights or specials, so check their websites for upcoming events. Grab your boots and head out— the twang awaits!
